A course examining the core disciplines of cognitive science using varied themes from semester to semester.
Topic: Consciousness & Free Will
Understanding the computational nature and bioological basis of phenomenal awareness - the core component of consciousness, which is present in humans and other sentient beings - is one of the hardest problems in cognitive science. In this seminar, we shall discuss the key computational approaches to the understanding of consciousness and the brain mechanisms that give rise to it. The readings will focus on up-to-date primary literature. Prior familiarity with basic concepts in computational cognitive science is required.
