HD 2180 - Human Development: Adulthood and Aging


(D-HE, KCM-HE, SBA-HE)      
Fall. 3 credits. Student option grading.

Prerequisite: HD 1150  or HD 1170  or PSYCH 1101  (recommended, not required)

Introduces students to theories and research in adult development and aging. Describes biological, psychological and social changes from youth through late adulthood. Identifies strategies to promote healthy aging at the individual and societal level.

Outcome 1: Students understand age-related changes in biological, psychological, and social functioning and understand strategies to promote health aging.

Outcome 2: Students demonstrate understanding of theoretical perspectives and research findings regarding the major milestones of development in various domains during infancy and childhood (e.g., physical, cognitive, and social/emotional) and understand the interaction of genetic and environmental factors in development.

Outcome 3: Students will be able to formulate a well-formed research question in the field of gerontology to serve as the basis for their paper.
