FSAD 6500 - [Fashion, Media, and Technology]


     
Spring (offered alternate years). 3 credits. Letter grades only.

Prerequisite: FSAD 2310  or consumer behavior or communications course. Permission of instructor required.

This course will serve as an examination of interactive media formats (including digital and social media, the Internet, and mobile devices) and technological developments influencing the apparel value chain (design, production, distribution, marketing, and consumption). It will explore theories from innovation management, communication, supply chain management, and consumer behavior in order to apply them to solutions in the apparel industry. Concepts and principles of entrepreneurship will also be presented as they relate to technological innovation in the fashion industry.

Outcome 1: Develop an understanding of current technology developments in relation to marketing in the fashion industry.

Outcome 2: Identify processes in the apparel supply chain which leverage the capabilities of advanced technology including data mining, customer relationship management, mass customization, crowd sourcing and co-design.

Outcome 3: Critically analyze theoretical concepts in order to propose technology-based solutions to current market challenges facing apparel businesses.

Outcome 4: Evaluate the role of entrepreneurship in relation to technology advancement and the demands of apparel consumers.
