HADM 4550 - Introduction to Sustainable Tourism - A Costa Rican Practicum

Recommended prerequisite: HADM 3550 or other environmental related courses. This course requires a practicum trip with a cost of $3,600 per student. Enrollment limited to: juniors and seniors. Co-meets with HADM 6550. Elective. Graduate students must enroll in HADM 6550.

This course will examine the principles of sustainable tourism with strategies that could work anywhere on the globe including urban cities, natural environments and historically significant/preserved locations. As a part of this course, students will work on sustainable tourism projects for stakeholders in Costa Rica. There is a required 8 day practicum trip for students over winter break where they will conduct further research for their projects, perform community service and present their findings to their local stakeholders. A one credit, seven week course will conclude the work in Costa Rica.
