RUSSA 1127 - Russian Through Acting


     
Summer. 1 credit. Student option grading.

Prerequisite: completion of RUSSA 1122 /RUSSA 1132  in 2017, 2018, or 2019. Course fee: TBA. Permission of instructor required. Offered in Moscow, Russia, at the Eralash Theater. Four fifty-minute classes each weekday: three classes taught in Russian by the Moscow acting instructors who train and select the young actors for the Eralash humor magazine; and one taught by Viktoria Tsimberov in Russian and English as preparation for the acting classes. Four guided tours (in English) in Moscow and vicinities. Three tours in St. Petersburg and vicinities. The course objectives are a) reinforce the communicative and other linguistic skills learned in our first-year Russian courses; b) learn to express yourself in ways that are close to the way the Russian young people express themselves in their everyday life in today’s Russia; c) experience the social ambiance of non-academic instruction in the entertainment world in Russia; and d) benefit from a one week immersion in summertime Moscow. A cultural program on weekends and nights includes museum and city tours, a visit to the theater, and similar activities.
