DEA 5560 - [Health Impact Assessment]

Recommended prerequisite: DEA 1500 , DEA 2700 , DEA 6610 [Inactive].

Health Impact Assessment (“HIA”) is a tool to bring health issues into consideration when a policy, program or project is under consideration. Students learn about the history and values underlying HIA, as well as the HIA process. With team members, students engage with community stakeholders, examine relevant research evidence, and leverage evidence to inform decision making.

Outcome 1: Demonstrate understanding of pathways of influence between environment and health outcomes.

Outcome 2: Think critically to apply theory and other content to real-world contexts.

Outcome 3: Apply multi-disciplinary perspectives including planning, public health, & environmental psychology to health & environment issues.

Outcome 4: Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, related to environment and health issues.

Outcome 5: Develop interpersonal skills; work effectively together. Demonstrate interdependence & social responsibility through HIA project & case studies.
