BEE 3710 - Physical Hydrology for Ecosystems

(CU-SBY, EC-LASP)
Spring. 3 credits. Letter grades only.

Prerequisite: MATH 1920  or permission of instructor. Co-meets with BEE 5710 . Offered in odd-numbered years only.

T. Walter.

Introduction to physical hydrology with an emphasis on roles and interactions between hydrological processes and ecological, biogeochemical, and human systems.

Outcome 1: Explain the components of the hydrological cycle and calculate the major fluxes.

Outcome 2: Create a simple watershed model.

Outcome 3: Manipulate and analyze basic hydrologic data.

Outcome 4: Connect hydrologic processes with ecological and chemical processes in the landscape.

Outcome 5: Assess impacts and risk to water resources due to climate change & human-activities.

Outcome 6: Make basic hydrologic field measurements such as snow-water equivalent, stream discharge, and infiltration (weather depending).
