BEE 4500 - Bioinstrumentation

(CU-SBY)
Spring. 3-4 credits, variable. Letter grades only.

Prerequisite: MATH 2940 , introductory computing, two semesters of physics including electromagnetism, statistics, or permission of instructor. Priority given to: students taking capstone design. Satisfies BE capstone design if taken for 4 credits through Spring 2023.

M. Wu.

Bioinstrumentation applications are emphasized in this laboratory-based course. Electronic instruments from sensor to computer are considered. Static and dynamic characteristics of components and systems are examined theoretically and empirically. General analog and digital signal condition circuits are designed, constructed, and tested. A variety of biological applications of instrumentation are discussed.

Outcome 1: Students will demonstrate improved ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety and welfare, as well as relevant global, cultural, social, environmental and economic factors (ABET 2).

Outcome 2: Students will display an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences (ABET 3).

Outcome 3: Students will demonstrate an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgements which consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts (ABET 4).

Outcome 4: Students will demonstrate an ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks and meet objectives (ABET 5).

Outcome 5: Students will improve their ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgement to draw conclusions (ABET 6).
