Perspectives on complex organizations with special focus on the administration of educational organizations as they interact with local and non-local communities. Considers social science and legal theories and empirical research, and their application to public K-12 schools, higher education, and community development. Intended for students interested in studying organizational change, educational reform, and community vitality.
Outcome 1: Analyze the organizational behavior of highly institutionalized organizations (e.g., the maintenance of traditional organizational forms or the creation of new organizational arrangements).
Outcome 2: Describe and synthesize the central tenets and development of institutional theory
Outcome 3: Evaluate how organizations respond to the multitude of societal, private, and governmental pressures.
Outcome 4: Integrate understanding of how education and development are major public policy issues in American society and beyond.
Outcome 5: Reflect on their own role in organizational leadership and improvement.
Outcome 6: Explore their interests in conducting theoretically based social science research and policy analysis.
