SPAN 4865 - [The Art of Revolution]

(ALC-AS, LA-AS) Satisfies Option 1.
Spring. Not offered: 2022-2023. Next offered: 2023-2024. 4 credits. Student option grading.

Conducted in Spanish.

I. Troconis.

In this course, we will critically examine the concept of “revolution” in connection with Latin American revolutionary movements that have taken place in the last sixty years in Cuba, Chile, Argentina, Columbia, Perú, and Venezuela. We will establish a dialogue between the political, social, and economic aspects of these revolutions and the cultural production created around them, including literature, film, photography, and performance. We will consider the following “revolutionary”? How do revolutions create affective and effective images? What role do concepts such as memory, nostalgia, fantasy, and utopia play in the coming together and coming apart of revolutions? Can technologies start and end revolutions?
