Biological Sciences Minor

The Minor in Biological Sciences:
The minor in biological sciences has been designed to provide students with a broad background in biology while allowing them some flexibility to choose courses of interest. Students must have completed one full year of introductory-level Biology (or its equivalent) in order to declare the minor. Students enrolled in any of Cornell’s seven undergraduate colleges may declare the minor, subject to the availability of required courses. To complete the Minor in Biological Sciences, students must submit the “Declaration of Minor” form; this form can be found in the Office of Undergraduate Biology or at www.biology.cornell.edu/forms. Option 1 -
Complete all 3 cluster courses (13-15 credits): Option 2 -
Complete 2 of 3 cluster courses and 5 additional credits in biology at the 2000-level or higher selected from the list of approved concentration courses or other courses of significant biology content with the approval of the Director of Advising in the Office of Undergraduate Biology (13-15 credits): Option 3 -
Complete at least 13 credits in biology at the 2000-level or higher selected from the list of approved concentration courses or other courses of significant biology content. The core courses (Biochemistry, Evolution, and Genetics) may be used toward these 13 credits. Courses selected for both Options 2 and 3 must be approved by an academic advisor in the Office of Undergraduate Biology. Notes:
All courses for the minor must be taken for a letter grade. Once a student is matriculated, all courses for the minor must be taken at Cornell. BIOG 2990 or BIOG 4990 (Introduction and Independent Research courses) may not be used to fulfill any requirement for the minor. No course substitutions are allowed. External transfer students and study abroad students may only apply a maximum of one course taken at another institution to count toward Option 1, 2, and 3 requirements. Admission to the minor does not guarantee that a student will be able to take a given Biological Sciences course in a given semester, just as being a Biological Sciences major offers no such guarantee. Students must see an advisor in the Office of Undergraduate Biology for academic advising and for certifying completion of the minor. |
