BIOAP 2140 - The Biological Basis of Human Reproduction

Spring. 3 credits. Student option grading (no audit).

Prerequisite: one year of introductory biology (or AP credit).

This course will examine human reproductive biology. Topics will address the structural, functional, and endocrine differences between the male and the female primarily as they relate to reproduction. Reproductive aberrations resulting in infertility and assisted reproductive technologies will be discussed. Additionally, non-reproductive differences including physical and behavioral differences will be considered.

Outcome 1: Students will be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of the regulation of female and male mammalian reproduction and will be able to relate course content to practical areas such as contraception and infertility.

Outcome 2: Students will gain an appreciation for the process of acquiring new scientific knowledge.

Outcome 3: Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the difficulty of separating biological and cultural influences on non-reproductive sex differences.
